Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system check. See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II (OBD-II) SYSTEM CHECK in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
  2. Install Tech 2 scan tool. Check for DTCs. If DTC U1064 was also set, go to DTC U1064: LOSS OF BCM COMMUNICATION . If DTC U1064 was not set, go to next step.
  3. Check condition of theft deterrent system components. If any part of theft deterrent system has been tampered with, go to next step. If all components are okay, go to step  5.
  4. Repair damage to theft deterrent system. Perform passlock learn procedure. See PASSWORD LEARN PROCEDURE FOR ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM  in PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step  8.
  5. If BCM indicates password is valid, go to next step. If BCM indicates password is invalid, go to step  7.
  6. Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using appropriate equipment. See PROGRAMMING . After repair, go to step  8.
  7. Using scan tool, select CLEAR INFO or CLEAR DTCS function to clear DTCs. Start engine and allow it to idle. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Operate vehicle within conditions required for setting this DTC. Select SPECIFIC DTC function, then enter DTC P1626. If scan tool indicates TEST RAN AND PASSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate TEST RAN AND PASSED, repeat step  2.
  8. If any other DTCs are set, diagnose DTCs as necessary. If no other DTCs are set, system is okay.
