Rear Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Apply light coat of high-temperature grease onto threads of adjuster assembly, sliding surfaces of brake shoes and metal contact areas of backing plate. See Fig 1 . Install parking brake lever onto brake shoe. Apply Molykote 44MA compound onto brake shoe ends and opposite edges of shoes. See Fig 2 .
  2. Screw in self-adjuster bolt until it stops. Install parking brake cable onto lever. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Bleed system as necessary. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM  . Depress brake pedal several times to set self-adjusting brake. Adjust parking brake. See PARKING BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  3. Release button and park vehicle for 5-10 minutes, then repeat previous step. Check parking brake lever adjustment. See PARKING BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
