Cooling System Bleeding: Insight

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2000 Honda Odyssey, 2000 Honda Insight, 2000 Honda Civic, 2000 Honda Accord, and 1999 Honda Odyssey. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Set heater controls to maximum heat. Loosen air bleed bolt located on water outlet. See Fig 1. Fill cooling system with a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water. Tighten bleed bolt when coolant flows from bleed bolt in steady stream without bubbles.
  2. Continue to pour coolant into radiator to bottom of filler neck. Install radiator cap. Remove water outlet cap, and install a 5/16" (8mm) hose and funnel. See Fig 2. Pour coolant into funnel until coolant level reaches base of funnel. Start engine and let engine idle. Add coolant into funnel as level goes down. Stop engine, and remove hose and funnel, and install water outlet cap.
  3. Start and operate engine to normal operating temperature (fan comes on at least twice). Turn off engine and let it cool down. Remove radiator cap, and add coolant if necessary to base of filler neck and to MAX mark on overflow reservoir.
