Rear Drum Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Replace brake shoes if linning thickness is less than .039" (1.0 mm). Apply high temperature brake grease to sliding surfaces of backing plate, wheel cylinder piston shoe slots and anchors. Install automatic adjuster levers to secondary shoe. See Figure . Install parking brake cable to actuator lever. Connect brake shoes together with upper return spring.
  2. Place adjuster assembly into position (with star wheel nearest secondary shoe). Fit shoes to wheel cylinder piston slots. Install hold-down springs and cups. Attach lower return spring. Install brake drums. Install rear wheels. Adjust brakes.
