EVAP Control Canister Vent Shut Valve (VSV) Test

  1. Disconnect vacuum hose from EVAP control canister filter. See Figure . Using backprobe set, connect a fused jumper wire between ground and PCM 32-pin connector "A" terminal No. 29 (Orange/Green wire). Turn ignition on and apply vacuum to hose. If EVAP control canister VSV does not hold a vacuum, go to next step. If EVAP control canister VSV holds a vacuum, EVAP control canister VSV is okay at this time. Perform canister system leak test. See CANISTER SYSTEM LEAK TEST  .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EVAP control canister VSV connector. Check for continuity between ground and EVAP control canister VSV harness connector terminal No. 2 (Orange/Green wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Orange/Green wire between EVAP control canister VSV and PCM 32-pin connector "A" terminal No. 29. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  3. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and EVAP control canister VSV harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Yellow wire). If battery voltage exists, replace EVAP control canister VSV and "O" ring. If battery voltage does not exist, open in Black/Yellow wire between EVAP control canister VSV and No. 14 PCM (15-amp) fuse.
