DTC P1381 & DTC P1382: CYP Sensor

  1. Perform PCM reset procedure. See PCM RESET PROCEDURE/CLEARING DTCS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Start engine. If DTCs P1381 and/or P1382 are indicated, go to next step. If DTCs P1381 and/or P1382 are not indicated, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at CYP sensor 4-pin connector and PCM. CYP sensor 4-pin connector is located at distributor housing. Also check poor connections or loose wires at C283 connector, located at right shock tower. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CYP sensor connector. Measure resistance between CYP sensor connector terminals No. 2 (Yellow wire) and No. 4 (Black wire). See Figure . If resistance is 260-460 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 260-460 ohms, replace distributor ignition housing.
  3. Check for continuity between ground and CYP sensor connector terminals No. 2 (Yellow wire) and No. 4 (Black wire), individually. See Figure . If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace distributor housing.
  4. Ensure ignition is off. Reconnect CYP sensor 4-pin connector. Disconnect PCM 31-pin connector "C". See Figure . Measure resistance between PCM 31-pin harness connector "C" terminals No. 4 (Yellow wire) and No. 14 (Black wire). If resistance is 260-460 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 260-460 ohms, repair open in suspect wire(s) between CYP sensor and PCM. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  5. Check for continuity between ground and PCM 31-pin harness connector "C" terminal No. 4 (Yellow wire). If continuity exists, repair short in wire between CYP sensor and PCM. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If continuity does not exist, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. See SUBSTITUTING PCM under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If symptom or problem goes away, replace original PCM.
