Spark Knock/Detonation

Check for engine running hot because of low coolant or other cooling system faults.
Check for correct fuel octane rating.
Check engine compression.
Check TP sensor adjustment and operation.
Check knock sensor (if equipped) and circuit.
Check for correct PROM or EEPROM.
Check spark plugs for correct heat range.
Check for incorrect basic engine parts such as camshaft, cylinder heads and pistons.
Check ignition timing.
Check for low fuel pressure.
Check EGR system operation.
Check automatic transmission for correct shift points.
Check for carbon build-up in cylinders.
Check for correct fuel pressure.
Check for rich or lean running conditions.
Check for faulty Torque Converter Clutch.
Check for faulty ECT sensor.
Check for restricted air intake system.
