Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) System Check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Retrieve and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. Go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Attempt to establish communication with ATC control module. If scan tool communicates with ATC control module, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with ATC control module, check Dark Green/White and Dark Green wires between ATC control module and VCM for an open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary.
  3. Check class II serial data circuits at VCM connector C4 terminals No. 11 (Dark Green wire) and No. 14 (Yellow wire) for an intermittent open circuit, short to ground, short to voltage, or loose or damaged terminals. Repair wiring as necessary. If a problem was not found, go to next step.
  4. Ensure ignition is off. Reconnect all electrical connectors. Clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 15 seconds. Turn ignition on, engine off. If DTC does not reset, problem is intermittent. If DTC P1626 resets, replace VCM. Perform password learn procedure. See PASSWORD LEARN PROCEDURE in ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - HOMBRE article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Reprogram using a Tech 2 or other OBD-II compatible scan tool.
