Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) System Check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Retrieve and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. Go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, check for any VTD related DTCs. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - HOMBRE article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Diagnose and clear DTC(s) as necessary, then go to next step.
    NOTE: Following step will cause DTC P1631 to set. Once DTC is set, turn ignition off for 30 seconds, then turn ignition back on and DTC 1631 will clear. If DTC does not clear, see ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - HOMBRE article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. T for 30 seconds. Turn ignition on, engine off, for 11 minutes or until DTC P1631 sets. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Turn ignition on and wait 30 seconds. Attempt to start engine. If engine starts and operates normally, go to next step. If engine does not start and operate normally, check if other DTCs are set. Go to appropriate DTC test. If no other DTCs are set, repeat this step.
  4. Clear VCM DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Attempt to start engine. If engine starts and operates normally, system is okay. If engine does not start and operate, check if other DTCs are set. Go to appropriate DTC test. If no other DTCs are set, repeat step  3.
