Diagnostic Procedures

- Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) System Check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Retrieve and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. Go to next step.
- Connect EVAP Diagnostic Station (J-41413). Turn rotary switch to PURGE position. Start engine and monitor vacuum gauge on diagnostic station. If vacuum is greater than -15 in. H2 O, go to next step. If vacuum is less than specified, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect purge solenoid valve harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe EVAP purge control ignition feed circuit (Pink wire) at harness connector. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition on. Disconnect VCM Clear harness connector. Turn engine on, with engine off. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe EVAP purge control ignition feed circuit (Pink wire) at harness connector. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, go to step 7.
- Repair short to ground in EVAP canister purge valve driver circuit (Dark Green/White wire). After repair, go to step 8.
- Replace EVAP canister purge solenoid valve. After replacement, go to step 8.
- Replace VCM. Program replacement VCM. Perform Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD) password learn program. Perform CKP system variation learn procedure. See PROGRAMMING . After completing learn procedures, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO function. Using scan tool, perform EVAP SYSTEM SERVICE BAY TEST. After test is complete, go to next step.
- If scan tool displays any FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS, diagnose affected DTCs. If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
