Diagnostic Procedures

- Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) System Check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Retrieve and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. Go to next step.
- Start and operate engine for 2 minutes. Ensure engine is in closed loop and at normal operating temperature. Using scan tool, command AIR pump ON. If short term fuel trim for bank 1 changes more than 16 percent in 30 seconds, go to next step. If short term fuel trim for bank 1 does not change more than 16 percent in 30 seconds, go to step 4.
- DTC P1415 is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . Repair as needed. If any other DTCs are set, diagnose DTCs as necessary before proceeding. If no other DTCs are set, go to next step.
- Check following AIR system components for bank 1:
- Hoses and pipes for acceptable connections
- Kinks, holes or pinched hoses and pipes
- Heat damaged components
Repair any damaged or suspect component as needed and go to step 7. If no problems are found, go to next step.
- Disconnect AIR hose at bank 1 AIR check valve. Start engine. Using scan tool, command AIR pump ON. If air flows from AIR hose, go to next step. If air does not flow from AIR hose, repair hose for restriction and go to step 7.
- Inspect bank 1 AIR hose for restrictions or leaks between check valve and connection where system branches off to each bank. Repair hose as needed and go to next step. If no problems are found, go to DTC P0410: SECONDARY AIR INJECTION (AIR) SYSTEM
- Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO function. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Select DTC, SPECIFIC, then enter DTC P1415. Operate vehicle within conditions for setting this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this test RAN AND PASSED, go to next step. If scan tool did not indicate that this test RAN AND PASSED, repeat step 2.
- Using scan tool, select CAPTURE INFO, REVIEW INFO function. If any undiagnosed DTC(s) are displayed, go to applicable DTC test.
