Diagnostic Procedures
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Isuzu Hombre. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) System Check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Retrieve and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. Go to next step.
- Ensure Tech 2 scan tool is installed. If any other DTCs are set, diagnose affected DTCs. If no other DTCs are set, go to next step.
- Turn engine on and allow it to idle until normal operating temperature is reached. Increase engine speed to 1200-2000 RPM. Using scan tool, monitor HO2S. If HO2S voltage fluctuates rapidly from less than 0.3 volt to greater than 0.6 volt, go to next step. If voltage does not fluctuate as described, go to step 5.
- Operate engine at 1200-2000 RPM. If scan tool indicates closed loop, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If scan tool does not indicate closed loop, go to step 8.
- Operate engine at 1200-2000 RPM. Using scan tool, monitor HO2S voltage. If scan tool voltage remains mostly within 0.3-0.6 volts, go to step 8. If voltage is not as described, go to next step.
- Check VCM harness connector terminals for HO2S high circuit (Purple/White wire) and low circuit (Tan/White wire) for damage, corrosion or poor connection. If problem is found, go to step 10. If no problem is found, go to next step.NOTE: HO2S signal circuit may also be referred to high circuit.
- Check for poor connection at HO2S harness connector. Of problem is found, go to step 10. Of no problem is found, go to step 9.
- Check for possible cause of HO2S contamination. Check for antifreeze, silicone , lead deposits or rich fuel operation. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to next step. If no problem was found, go to step 11.
- Replace HO2S. After replacing sensor, go to step 11.
- Repair circuits and/or connections as necessary. After repairs, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO function. Start engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. Using scan tool, select DTC, SPECIFIC function and enter DTC P1133. Operate vehicle within conditions required to set DTC. If scan tool displays RAN AND PASSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display RAN AND PASSED, return to step 2.
- Using scan tool, select Read and Record INFO, REVIEW INFO function. If any undiagnosed DTCs are displayed, diagnose affected DTCs. If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
