Diagnostic Procedures

- Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) System Check See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Retrieve and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. Go to next step.
- If any other HO2S DTCs are set, diagnose affected DTCs. If no other HO2S DTCs are set, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using Tech 2 scan tool, read HO2S voltage. If voltage gradually changes 0.15 volt, go to step 8. If voltage does not change as described, go to next step.
- Disconnect HO2S harness connector. Using a test light, probe terminal "D" (Pink wire) of HO2S harness connector. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, go to step 6.
- Connect test light between terminal "C" (Black wire) and terminal "D" (Pink wire) of HO2S harness connector. If test light comes on, go to step 15. If test light does not come on, go to step 10.
- Check ENG 1 fuse (10-amp) located in underhood bussed electrical center. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty, go to step 11.
- Check HO2S connections. If problem is found, go to step 13. If connections are okay, go to step 12.
- Check HO2S for contamination. If contamination exists, go to step 14. If no contamination exists, go to next step.
- DTC P0153 is intermittent. If any additional DTCs are set, diagnose affected DTCs. If no additional DTCs are set, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Repair open in HO2S ground circuit (Black wire). After repair, go to step 16.
- Repair short to ground in HO2S ignition feed circuit (Pink wire). After repair, replace ENG 1 fuse (10-amp) and go to step 16.
- Repair open in HO2S ignition feed circuit (Pink wire). After repair, go to step 16.
- Repair HO2S connections as necessary. After repairs, go to step 16.
- Repair source of contamination. After repair, go to step 16.
- Replace HO2S. After replacing sensor, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO function. Start engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. Using scan tool, select DTC, SPECIFIC function and enter DTC P0153. Operate vehicle within conditions required to set DTC. If scan tool displays RAN AND PASSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display RAN AND PASSED, return to step 2.
- Using scan tool, select Read and Record INFO, REVIEW INFO function. If any undiagnosed DTCs are displayed, diagnose affected DTCs. If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
