Diagnostic Procedures
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Isuzu Hombre. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) System Check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Retrieve and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Ensure Tech 2 scan tool is installed. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, read HO2S voltage. If voltage gradually decreases 0.15 volt, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If voltage does not decrease as described, go to next step.NOTE: If engine has been operating, allow engine to cool for about one hour before proceeding with tests.
- Inspect ENG 1 fuse (10-amp) located in underhood bussed electrical center. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty, go to step 12.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S harness connector. Connect a test light between chassis ground and ignition feed circuit (Pink wire) at HO2S. If test light does not come on, go to step 7. If test light comes on, go to next step.
- Connect test light between ignition feed circuit (Pink wire) and HO2S heater ground circuit (Black wire) at HO2S harness connector. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, go to step 8.
- Allow HO2S to cool for at least 10 minutes. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ignition feed circuit (Pink wire) and HO2S heater ground circuit (Black wire) at HO2S harness connector. If resistance is 3-10 ohms, go to step 9. If resistance is not 3-10 ohms, go to step 11.
- Repair open in HO2S ignition feed circuit (Pink wire). After repair, go to step 14.
- Repair open in HO2S heater ground circuit (Black wire). After repair, go to step 14.
- Check HO2S for faulty connection. If faulty connection is found, go to step 14. If connection is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect VCM connectors. Using DVOM, measure resistance between HO2S signal circuit (Purple/White wire) and HO2S low circuit (Tan/White wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step 13.
- Replace HO2S. After replacing sensor, go to step 14.
- Check for short to ground in HO2S ignition feed circuit (Pink wire). Repair as necessary. After repair, replace ENG 1 fuse (10-amp) and go to step 14.
- Repair open or poor connection in HO2S signal circuit (Purple/White wire) and/or low circuit (Tan wire). After repair, go to next step.
- Allow engine to cool for about 30 minutes. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO function. Monitor HO2S voltage. If scan tool indicates 0.15 volt, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate 0.15 volt, return to step 3.
- Using scan tool, select Read and Record INFO, REVIEW INFO function. If any undiagnosed DTCs are displayed, diagnose affected DTCs. If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
