Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) System Check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Retrieve and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. Go to next step.
  2. If any other HO2S DTCs are set, diagnose affected DTCs. If no other HO2S DTCs are set, go to next step.
  3. Ensure Tech 2 scan tool is installed. Using scan tool, monitor HO2S voltage. If scan tool display gradually changes by about 150 mV, go to step  8. If scan tool display does not gradually change by about 150 mV, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect HO2S harness connector. Using a test light connected to ground, probe terminal "D" (Pink wire) of HO2S harness connector. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, go to step  6.
  5. Connect a test light between HO2S harness connector terminal "C" (Black wire) and terminal "D" (Pink wire). If test light comes on, go to step  15. If test light does not come on, go to step  10.
  6. Check ENG 1 fuse (10-amp). If use is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty, go to step  11.
  7. Check HO2S harness connections. If no problem was found, go to step  12. If problem was found, go to step  13.
  8. Remove HO2S. Check sensor for contamination. If contamination is found, go to step  14. If sensor is okay, go to next step.
  9. DTC P0133 is intermittent. If any additional DTCs are set, diagnose affected DTCs. If no additional DTCs are set, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  10. Repair open in HO2S ground circuit (Black wire). After repair, go to step  16.
  11. Repair short to ground in HO2S ignition feed circuit (Pink wire). Replace ENG 1 fuse (10-amp). After repairs, go to step  16.
  12. Repair open in HO2S ignition feed circuit (Pink wire). After repair, go to step  16.
  13. Repair HO2S connections as necessary. After repair, go to step  16.
  14. Repair source of sensor contamination. After repairs, go to step  16.
  15. Replace HO2S. After replacing sensor, go to next step.
  16. Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO function. Start engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. Using scan tool, select DTC, SPECIFIC function and enter DTC P0133. Operate vehicle within conditions required to set DTC. If scan tool displays RAN AND PASSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display RAN AND PASSED, return to step  2.
  17. Using scan tool, select Read and Record INFO, REVIEW INFO function. If any undiagnosed DTCs are displayed, diagnose affected DTCs. If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay.
