DTC P1166 (D16Y5 M/T): Primary Ho2S-1 Heater Circuit Malfunction
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Honda Civic. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Perform PCM reset procedure. See PCM RESET PROCEDURE/CLEARING DTCS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Start engine. If DTC P1166 is indicated, go to next step. If DTC P1166 is not indicated, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at HO2S-1 and PCM connectors. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S-1, 8-pin connector. Measure resistance between HO2S-1, 8-pin connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). See Figure. If resistance is 2-13 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 2-13 ohms, replace HO2S-1.
- Check for continuity between ground and HO2S-1, 8-pin connector terminals, individually. See Figure. If continuity does not exist at any terminal, go to next step. If continuity exists at any terminal, replace HO2S-1.
- Check for continuity between HO2S-1, 8-pin connector terminal No. 1 and terminals No. 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8, individually. See Figure. If continuity does not exist at any terminal, go to next step. If continuity exists at any terminal, replace HO2S-1.
- Start engine and allow to idle. Measure voltage between ground and HO2S-1, 8-pin harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire). See Figure. If more than 5.0 volts exists, go to next step. If 5.0 volts or less exists, go to step 7.
- Measure voltage between HO2S-1, 8-pin harness connector terminals No. 1 (Black/White wire) and No. 2 (Black wire). If more than 5.0 volts exists, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. If symptom or problem goes away, replace original PCM. If 5.0 volts or less exists, check for open in Black wire between HO2S-1 connector and ground connection, located on thermostat housing.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM 32-pin connector "A". Check for continuity between ground and PCM 32-pin harness connector "A" terminal No. 6 (Black/White wire). See Figure. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, check for short in Black/White wire between PCM and HO2S-1. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Check for continuity between PCM 32-pin harness connector "A" terminal No. 6 (Black/White wire) and HO2S-1, 8-pin harness connector terminal No. 1 (Black/White wire). See Figure and Figure . If continuity does not exist, check for open in Black/White wire between PCM and HO2S-1. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If continuity exists, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. If symptom or problem goes away, replace original PCM.
