DTC P0335, DTC P0336, DTC P1361, DTC P1362, DTC P1381 & DTC P1382: CKP/TDC/CYP Sensor

NOTE: Crankshaft Position/Top Dead Center/Cylinder Position (CKP/TDC/CYP) sensor is built into distributor and is serviced by replacing the distributor.
NOTE: If DTC P1359 is set when DTC P0335, P0336, P1361, P1362, P1381 and/or P1382 are indicated, trouble shoot DTC P1359 first.
  1. Perform PCM reset procedure. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Start engine. If DTC P0335, P0336, P1361, P1362, P1381 and/or P1382 are indicated, go to next step. If specified DTCs are not indicated, problem is intermittent. System is okay at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires between CKP/TDC/CYP sensor distributor 8-pin and PCM connectors. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CKP/TDC/CYP sensor distributor 8-pin connector. Measure resistance between specified CKP/TDC/CYP sensor connector terminals. See CHECKING CKP/TDC/CYP SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. See Fig 1 . If resistance between specified sensor terminals is 350-700 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace distributor ignition housing.
  3. Check for continuity between ground and each specified CKP/TDC/CYP sensor connector terminal, individually. See CHECKING CKP/TDC/CYP SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. See Fig 1 . If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace distributor ignition housing.
  4. Reconnect CKP/TDC/CYP sensor distributor 8-pin connector. Disconnect PCM 31-pin connector "C". Measure resistance between specified PCM 31-pin connector "C" harness connector terminals. See CHECKING CKP/TDC/CYP SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. See Figure . If resistance between specified PCM 31-pin connector "C" terminals is 350-700 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open in suspect circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  5. Check for continuity between ground and PCM 31-pin harness connector "C" terminals No. 8 (Blue wire), No. 20 (Green wire) and No. 29 (Yellow wire), individually. See Figure . If continuity exists, repair short in suspect circuit. If continuity does not exist, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. See SUBSTITUTING PCM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If symptom or indication goes away, replace original PCM.
