Abs Indicator Light Stays On With Engine Running, No Trouble Codes Present

  1. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If DTC is present, go to appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  . If DTC is not present, go to next step.
  2. Check fuse No. 16 (7.5-amp), located in underdash fuse/relay box. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and retest system. If fuse is okay, install fuse and go to next step.
  3. Check fuse No. 62 (20-amp), located in underhood ABS fuse/relay box. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and retest system. If fuse is okay, install fuse and go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ABS control unit 26-pin connector "B" terminal No. 3 (Black/Blue wire) by backprobing. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Black/Blue wire between ABS control unit connector "B" and fuse No. 16 (7.5-amp), located in underdash fuse/relay box.
  5. Measure voltage between ground and ABS control unit connector "B" terminals No. 14 and 15 (White/Green wires) by backprobing . If battery voltage exists at each terminal, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist at each terminal, repair open in appropriate White/Green wire(s) between ABS control unit connector "B" and fuse No. 62 (20-amp) located in underhood ABS fuse/relay box.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS control unit 22-pin connector "A" and gauge assembly 5-pin connector. Check for continuity between ground and ABS control unit connector "A" terminal No. 7 (Blue/Red wire). See Fig 1 . If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Blue/Red wire between ABS control unit connector "A" and gauge assembly.
  7. Reconnect ABS control unit connector "A". Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ABS control unit connector "A" terminal No. 7 by backprobing. If battery voltage exists, go to step  10 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  8. Backprobe and connect fused jumper wire between ABS control unit connector "B" terminal No. 16 (Black wire) and ground. Measure voltage between ground and ABS control unit connector "A" terminal No. 7 (Blue/Red wire). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair open in Black wire between ABS control unit and ground. Ground points are located behind left kick panel and right kick panel.
  9. Check for loose ABS control unit connectors. If problem exists, repair connector(s). If problem does not exist, replace ABS control unit and recheck ABS indicator light operation.
  10. Measure voltage between ground and gauge assembly 5-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Blue/Red wire). If battery voltage exists, replace ABS indicator light drive circuit in gauge assembly. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Blue/Red wire between ABS control unit connector "A" and gauge assembly.
