Removal & Installation (Civic & CR-V)

  1. Align front wheels straight ahead. Disable air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. To remove air bag module, remove 2 Torx T30 bolts. Disconnect radio remote switches, horn connector, and cruise control connectors (if equipped). Remove steering wheel nut. See Figure. On Civic, remove steering wheel by rocking steering wheel from side to side while pulling steadily on steering wheel with both hands. On CR-V, use steering wheel puller and remove steering wheel assembly. Go to next step.
  2. To install, ensure front wheels are straight ahead. Center cable reel by rotating cable reel clockwise until it stops. Then rotate cable reel counterclockwise about 2 turns. Arrow mark on cable reel should point straight up. Position tabs of turn signal cancelling sleeve so one tab points up and other tab points down. See Figure. Go to next step.
  3. Install steering wheel on steering column ensuring steering wheel hub engages pins of cable reel and tabs of canceling sleeve. DO NOT tap on steering column shaft when installing steering wheel. Install steering wheel nut and tighten to specification. Install switches. Install air bag module and tighten Torx bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
