Horn Switch: Prelude
- Disable air bag system. See
AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove access panel from steering wheel. Disconnect 2-pin connector between cable reel and air bag module. Remove driver's side instrument panel lower cover. Disconnect combination switch harness 4-pin connector C409 from main wiring harness. Go to next step.
- With horn switch depressed, check continuity between ground and combination switch harness connector C409 terminal No. 1. See Fig 1. If continuity exists, horn switch is okay. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Remove steering column covers. Disconnect combination switch harness at cable reel 4-pin connector. Check continuity of Blue/Red wire between combination switch harness connector C409 terminal No. 1 and combination switch harness-to-cable reel connector terminal No. 1. See Fig 1. If continuity does not exist, replace combination switch harness. If continuity exists, go to next step.
- Remove air bag module from steering wheel. See
AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. With horn switch depressed, check continuity between horn positive terminal and steering wheel bolt. If continuity exists, replace cable reel. See
AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. If continuity does not exist, replace horn switch.
