Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Test

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove rear seat cushion. Remove rear floor beam. Remove fuel tank access panel. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. See Fig 1. Remove fuel gauge sending unit from fuel tank.
  2. Using DVOM, check resistance between fuel gauge harness connector terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire). See Fig 1. With sending unit float in Empty (down) position. Reading should be 105-108 ohms. Hold sending unit at Half (middle) position, reading should be about 29.5-35.5 ohms. When in Full (up) position, reading should be 3.5-5.0 ohms. If resistance values are not as specified, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
