Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit Test

  1. Check for open fuse No. 14 (15-amp) in underdash fuse/relay block. Disconnect VSS harness connector. See Figure. Connect Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3020A) to VSS harness side connector. Connect Red clip of test harness to positive lead of DVOM and ground DVOM negative lead. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire between VSS and ground terminal G101. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  2. Connect White clip of test harness to positive lead of DVOM, and Red clip of test harness to negative lead of DVOM. Turn ignition on. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between VSS and underdash fuse/relay block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Connect Green clip of test harness to positive lead of DVOM, and Red clip of test harness to negative lead of DVOM. Turn ignition on. If voltage reading is 5 volts or greater, go to next step. If voltage reading is not 5 volts or greater, repair short in Blue/White wire between VSS and ECM or TCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Turn ignition off. Connect the other end of test harness to VSS. Raise and support front of vehicle. Turn ignition on, and shift transaxle into Neutral. Block one wheel, and slowly rotate other wheel. If voltage pulses from 0-5 volts or greater, go to next step. If voltage does not pulse from 0-5 volts or greater, replace VSS.
  5. Disconnect speedometer harness connector "B". See Fig 1. Block one wheel, and slowly rotate other wheel. Using DVOM, check voltage between ground and speedometer harness connector terminal B3 (Blue/White wire). If voltage pulses, replace speedometer. If voltage does not pulse, repair open in Blue/White wire between VSS and speedometer. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
