Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit Test
- Check for open fuse No. 14 (15-amp) in underdash fuse/relay box. Disconnect VSS 3-pin connector. See Figure
. Connect Test Harness (07LAJ-PT3020A) to engine wiring harness. Connect Red clip of test harness to positive lead of DVOM. Using DVOM connected, check continuity to ground at Red clip. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black wire.
- Connect other test harness connector to VSS. Connect White clip of test harness to positive lead of DVOM, and Red clip of test harness to negative lead of DVOM. Turn ignition on. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Black/Yellow wire between VSS and underdash fuse/relay box.
- Connect Green clip of test harness to positive lead of DVOM, and Red clip of test harness to negative lead of DVOM. Turn ignition on. If reading of 5 volts or more exists, go to next step. If a reading of less than 5 volts exists, repair open in Blue/White wire between VSS and Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Turn ignition off. Raise and support front of vehicle. Turn ignition on, and shift transaxle into Neutral. Block one wheel, and slowly rotate other wheel. If voltage pulses from zero and 5 or more volts, go to next step. If voltage does not pulse as specified, replace VSS.
- Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin speedometer connector "B". See Fig 1
. Block one wheel, and slowly rotate other wheel. Using DVOM, check voltage between speedometer connector Blue/White wire and ground. If voltage pulses, replace speedometer. If voltage does not pulse, repair open in Blue/White wire between VSS and speedometer.
