Fuel Gauge Test

CAUTION: In the following tests, DO NOT apply battery voltage to wire terminals, or fuel gauge will be damaged. Turn ignition off before fuel gauge pointer reaches "F" mark, or fuel gauge will be damaged.
  1. Turn ignition off. Check fuse No. 13 METER (15-amp) in underdash fuse/relay box. If fuse is okay, remove rear seat cushion. Remove rear floor beam. Remove fuel tank access panel. Disconnect 3-pin connector from fuel gauge sending unit.
  2. Connect DVOM positive lead to terminal "A" (Yellow/Blue wire) and negative lead to terminal "B" (Black wire). See Figure . Turn ignition on. If reading is 5-8 volts, go to next step. If reading is not 5-8 volts, check for open in Black wire and Yellow/Blue wire circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. Check for poor harness ground connector G501.
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect a jumper wire between terminal "A" (Yellow/Blue wire) and terminal "B" (Black wire). Turn ignition on. Ensure fuel gauge pointer starts to move toward "F" mark on gauge. If fuel gauge pointer does not move, replace fuel gauge. If fuel gauge moves towards "F", turn ignition off, fuel gauge and wiring are okay. Test fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST.
