Speed Sensor Test

  1. Remove gauge assembly from dashboard. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. Using a voltmeter, connect positive lead to Black/Yellow terminal and negative lead to Black terminal of 7-pin (Yellow) connector. Battery voltage should be present. If not, check for a blown No. 12 (10-amp) in dash fuse block or a bad ground.
  2. With ignition switch in "ON" position, check voltage between White/Blue terminal and ground. Approximately 5 volts should be present. If not, check for an open in White/Blue wire.
  3. Connect 7-pin connector to speed sensor amplifier. Connect voltmeter positive lead to White/Blue terminal and negative lead to Black terminal. Insert a pencil into speedometer cable connector socket and turn it with ignition switch in "ON" position. Voltage should alternate between 0-5 volts.
