Camshaft End Thrust

Seat camshaft by prying it toward front of engine with a screwdriver. Attach dial indicator and zero it against end of distributor drive gear. Pry camshaft rearward, and check end thrust. Desired end thrust is .002-.006" (.05-.15 mm). Maximum allowable end thrust is .02" (.5 mm). If end play exceeds service limit, replace camshaft.
