Rear Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Apply light coat of grease to adjuster assembly, sliding surfaces of brake shoes and metal contact areas of backing plate.
  2. On all models, upper return spring is identified by long single coil. Lower return spring is identified by short single coil (Prelude & Accord), or long double coil (Civic).
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Adjust and bleed brakes.
NOTE: Before installing brake drum, release brake adjuster ratchet with screwdriver. Mark engaged teeth. Install drum and spindle nut. Depress brake pedal, remove drum and ensure ratchet has moved and brakes have self-adjusted.
