Front Disc Brake Pads: Installation

  1. Lubricate shim and all sliding surfaces with high temperature silicone grease. Install 4 small anti-rattle springs on Accord, 2 large anti-rattle springs on Civic, or pad spring and pad retainers on Prelude.
  2. Install shim against outer pad and install brake pads. Loosen bleeder screw. Seat piston into caliper bore with finger pressure and tighten bleeder screw.
  3. Rotate caliper body down and tighten lower caliper guide pin.
  4. Depress brake pedal several times to seat pads. Bleed brakes as necessary.


  1. Install anti-rattle springs and pad clips. Lubricate all sliding surfaces and metal side of brake pads with silicone grease. Install pads, with shim against outside shoe.
  2. Loosen bleeder screw, and seat piston into caliper bore with finger pressure. Tighten bleeder screw. Install caliper on mounting. Install guide plates and secure with spring pins.
  3. Depress brake pedal several times to seat pads. Bleed brakes as necessary.
NOTE: Disc brake calipers on all models are of the same basic design. Only caliper-to-bracket attachments and anti-rattle springs or clips differ between models.
