Clutch Assemblies: Disassembly

Remove large snap ring retaining end plate and clutches. Remove end plate and clutch pack, keep steel plates and lined plates in order removed. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .
Install a spring compressor that seats against clutch drum and against spring retainer. Compress spring and remove small snap ring. Slowly release spring compressor. Remove spring retainer, return spring, large "O" ring, small "O" ring, and piston.
Check condition of piston and check valve. Check for excessive wear or scoring on steel plates and lined plates. Replace steel or lined plates if necessary. Replace clutch assembly if piston is damaged.
