Steering Knuckle: Removal

  1. Pry nut lock tab away from spindle, and loosen hub nut. Raise front of vehicle and support with safety stands. Remove wheel assembly and hub nut. Remove caliper and hang caliper out of way.
  2. Remove disc brake retaining screws. Screw two 8 x 1.25 x 12 mm bolts into disc to push it away from hub. Turn each screw 2 turns at a time to prevent cocking disc.
  3. Remove cotter pin from tie-rod ball joint, and remove castle nut. Break loose tie-rod ball joint, and lift tie-rod out of knuckle. Remove cotter pin from lower control arm ball joint, and remove castle nut. Break loose lower control arm ball joint, and pull control arm down until ball joint is clear of knuckle.
  4. Remove upper ball joint shield. Remove cotter pin from upper ball joint, and remove castle nut. Break loose upper ball joint. Pull knuckle/hub assembly off axle. Remove splash guard screws and press hub out of knuckle. Taking care not to distort splash guard.
