Removal & Installation: Evaporator: Removal
- Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge system using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect suction hose and liquid line from evaporator. Cap open fittings immediately to keep moisture and dirt from entering system.
- Remove grommets from inlet and outlet fittings of evaporator. On Accord, remove glove box assembly. On Prelude, remove instrument panel under cover. Disconnect the vacuum line and wiring harness from blower assembly.
- Disconnect sealing band connecting blower motor assembly to evaporator case. See Fig 1. Remove bolts attaching blower motor to firewall. Remove blower motor assembly.
- Disconnect sealing band from evaporator assembly. Carefully disconnect the wiring harness from thermostat. Remove evaporator assembly attaching bolts and remove evaporator from vehicle.
- Remove self-tapping screws and clamps holding evaporator case together, and then separate evaporator case halves. Carefully pull thermostat capillary tube from evaporator fins. Separate the evaporator core housings. Remove the evaporator core from case. See Fig 2.
- Remove insulator from outlet tube of evaporator. Disconnect liquid line tube from inlet fitting of expansion valve. Remove expansion valve from inlet fitting.
