Choke Linkage
- Remove air cleaner. Remove choke cover. Disconnect the upper choke opener hose to the thermovalve and leave open to the atmosphere. Disconnect the lower hose and attach a hand vacuum pump. Apply 8 in. Hg vacuum. If vacuum drops below 8 in. Hg, repump to maintain level.
- Turn the choke drive lever counterclockwise until it touches choke opener lever and measure the clearance between choke valve and casting. Clearance should be .059-.065" (1.51-1.65 mm) for manual transmission models, .053-.059" (1.36-1.51 mm) for automatic transmission models. Adjust clearance by bending tab "A". See Fig 1 .
- Clamp off the upper vacuum hose and pull choke opener rod to the full extended position by using the hand vacuum pump until it shows 6-7 in. Hg vacuum. Turn the choke drive lever counterclockwise until tab "A" seats against the choke opener lever. Measure the clearance between the choke valve and casting.
- Clearance should be 2.29-2.47" (.090-.098 mm) for manual transmission models and .077-.085 (1.96-2.14 mm) for automatic transmission models. Adjust by bending tab "B". While holding the opener lever against the tab, turn the choke drive lever until tab "C" touches the spring and measure clearance at choke valve.
- Clearance should be .352-.370" (8.92-9.40 mm) for manual transmission models and .372-.390" (9.45-9.93 mm) for automatic transmission models. Adjust clearance by bending tab "C".
