Rear Brake Shoes: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel and tire and brake drum. Remove retaining springs and pins, self-adjuster spring and return springs (note original position of return springs). See Fig 1 and Figure .
  2. Remove primary brake shoe. Disconnect and remove secondary brake shoe from parking brake lever assembly.
  3. Standard rear brake lining thickness is .18" (4.5 mm). Service limit is .08" (2 mm).
NOTE: Inspect brake shoes for distortion, looseness, nicks, burrs or oil-soaked linings. Repair or replace as necessary.
