Removal & Installation

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels. Disconnect parking brake cable from trailing rod. Use floor jack to support axle housing. Remove nuts and bolts attaching trailing rod to body and axle housing. See Figure. Remove trailing rod.
  2. To replace trailing rod bushing, mount trailing rod in press with Bushing Adapters (J-29792-3 and J-28685-2). Press bushing from trailing rod. To install new bushing, reverse removal procedure using same press adapters.
  3. To install trailing rod, reverse removal procedure. Ensure parking brake cable hanger is leaning toward middle of vehicle. Tighten trailing rod bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Remove jack. Install parking brake cable to trailing rod. Install wheels and lower vehicle.
