Diagnostic Aids

Diagnosing DTCs in correct order is important. Failure to diagnose DTCs in order specified may result in extended diagnostic time, incorrect diagnosis and incorrect part replacement.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to specific step numbers on diagnostic chart and may skip step numbers. No information has been left out. For circuit number identification, see WIRING DIAGRAM  .
  1. 1)  AIR BAG warning lamp should flash 7 times after ignition is first turned on.
  2. 2)  AIR BAG warning lamp indicates improper operation. This test differentiates a warning lamp stays on condition from a warning lamp does not come on condition.
  3. 3)  AIR BAG warning lamp should turn off after flashing 7 times.
  4. 4)  This test checks if SDM is flashing DTC 12.
  5. 6)  This test checks for proper operation of serial data line.
  6. 7)  This test identifies stored DTCs and whether they are current or history.
  7. 8)  This test checks for proper operation of serial data line. It also identifies any stored history DTC.
