Rear Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Install parking brake shoe lever and self-adjusting strut. Install parking brake cable in lever. Install hold-down springs. Install brake shoes and return springs.
  2. On ABS equipped models, install hub, washer and NEW spindle nut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install brake drum.
  3. On non-ABS models, install brake drum, washer and NEW spindle nut. Tighten spindle nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. On all models, stake spindle nut in place. Install spindle cap. Adjust rear brakes. See REAR BRAKE SHOES  under ADJUSTMENTS.
