DTC P0741 Or P0771: Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Circuit Performance

NOTE: DTC P0741 or P0771 will set while operating vehicle in 3rd or 4th gear in "D" range if TCC control of TCM does not agree with actual operation of TCC, even though TCC control solenoid valve is electrically in good condition. This DTC is commonly caused by a stuck TCC control solenoid valve and/or clogged valve body fluid passage.
  1. Turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Road test vehicle and check for correct upshift speeds and TCC operation. See ROAD TEST under TESTING in appropriate overhaul article. After road test, recheck for DTCs. If DTC P0741 or P0771 resets, go to next step. If DTC P0741 or P0771 does not reset, fault is not present at this time.
  2. Inspect TCC solenoid valve operation. See SHIFT SOLENOIDS & TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH (TCC) SOLENOID  under COMPONENT TESTING. Replace if necessary. If TCC solenoid tests okay, go to next step.
  3. Inspect valve body condition. Check for leaks or obstructions in fluid passages. Overhaul if necessary. See VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY under COMPONENT DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY in TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL - A/T article. If valve body and fluid passages are okay, replace torque converter.
