Idle-Up Test (4WD Only)

CAUTION: Drive wheels must be at least 6 inches off the ground to avoid vehicle movement.
  1. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Raise and support vehicle. Connect Tech 1 scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Select F4: MISC TESTS. Select F3: IDLE-UP, under Select System. Select F0: MANUAL CONTROL, under Select Test. Shift transmission to Drive (A/T) or 1st gear (M/T). Accelerate drive wheels to 25 MPH.
  2. Shift transmission to Neutral and allow engine to return to idle. Press UP arrow button on Tech 1 to command idle-up circuit on and monitor engine RPM. If drive wheel speed is less than 12 MPH, ECM will ignore the idle-up command. Engine speed should increase from 800 RPM to approximately 2000 RPM as long as vehicle speed is at least 12 MPH.
  3. With vehicle speed at least 12 MPH, press DOWN arrow button on Tech 1 to command idle-up circuit off. Engine should return to idle RPM. If engine speed did not increase or stays high during test, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK.
