Removal (8-Valve)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove grill and upper radiator support. Drain cooling system. Remove cooling fan and shroud. Remove radiator.
  2. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove timing belt inside cover. Remove air cleaner assembly and valve cover.
  3. Insert a .35" (9 mm) diameter rod in hole of camshaft to hold camshaft during camshaft sprocket removal. See Figure. Remove retaining bolt and camshaft sprocket.
  4. Fully loosen all valve adjusting screws. Remove rocker arm shaft retaining screws. See Figure. Note location of rocker arm components for reassembly reference. Remove rocker arm shafts, rocker arms and springs. Keep components in order removed to ensure installation in original position.
