Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Inspection

  1. Inspect components for damage. Measure camshaft lobe height and journal runout. Replace camshaft if not within specification. See CAMSHAFT  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
  2. Measure cylinder head camshaft bore and camshaft journal diameter. Determine camshaft oil clearance. Replace camshaft or cylinder head if oil clearance is not within specification. See CAMSHAFT  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
CAUTION: On 16-valve engines, camshaft can be damaged if camshaft carrier bolts are removed randomly. Loosen camshaft carrier cap bolts gradually in reverse order of tightening sequence.
