Code 5, Excessive Dump Valve Action

  1. Ensure rear brakes are not dragging. If rear brakes are dragging, repair mechanical problem before proceeding with electronic testing. If rear brakes are not dragging on 2WD models, go to step 4). If rear brakes are not dragging on 4WD models, go to next step.
  2. If rear brakes are not dragging on 4WD models, turn ignition off and disconnect RWAL EBCM connector. Shift into 4WD. Turn ignition on.
  3. Measure voltage at RWAL EBCM harness connector terminal No. 3 (Orange/Black wire). If reading is less than one volt, go to next step. If reading is greater than one volt, repair 4WD switch or open in Orange/Black wire between RWAL EBCM, 4WD switch and 4WD indicator light.
  4. On 2WD and 4WD vehicles, replace pressure limit valve. Clear Code 5. See CLEARING TROUBLE CODES  . Drive vehicle in 2WD setting. In a safe area, firmly apply brakes and ensure rear wheels do not lock.
