Ignition Switch & Lock Cylinder R & I: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD R & I . Remove lower dash trim cover and both steering column covers. Disconnect ignition switch harness connector from behind instrument panel, near steering column.
- Remove steering column upper bracket bolts. Remove lower steering shaft joint bolt. Remove steering column. Mount steering column in a soft-jawed vise.
- Using chisel, create slots on top of mounting bolts, and using a screwdriver, remove 2 mounting bracket shear bolt heads. Use care not to damage aluminum ignition switch housing. Turn key to ON or ACC position. Remove ignition switch/lock housing from column.
