Diagnostic Aids

A loose or damaged CMP sensor could cause an intermittent code. A misaligned CMP sensor or improper air gap could also set a Code 42 or an intermittent "engine cranks but won't run" condition. For CMP sensor specifications, refer to I - SYS/COMP TESTS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. An intermittent condition may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed-through wire insulation, or a broken wire inside insulation. Check ECM harness connectors for backed-out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal-to-wire connection, and damaged harness.
