Removal (1.8L)

Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove serpentine drive belt. Using Engine Support Fixture (J-28467-A), support engine. Remove upper timing belt cover. See Fig 1 .
Remove engine mount located at timing belt cover. Rotate crankshaft, and position No. 1 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke. Ensure timing mark on crankshaft pulley aligns with "0" timing mark on timing belt cover.

Ensure timing marks on camshaft sprockets align with cylinder head surface. See Fig 2 . Raise and support vehicle. Remove crankshaft pulley bolt. Using Puller (J-1859-03), remove crankshaft pulley from crankshaft. Remove 2 lower bolts from timing belt lower cover. Lower vehicle. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield.
Remove 3 bolts from power steering pump mounting bracket and move pump forward to gain access to serpentine belt tensioner. Remove serpentine belt tensioner pulley from mounting bracket. Remove right engine mount bridge. Remove remaining bolt from timing belt lower cover and remove cover.
Ensure timing mark (notch) on rear of crankshaft sprocket aligns with timing mark on oil pump. See Fig 2 . If belt is to be reused, mark direction of timing belt rotation for installation reference. Loosen belt tensioner bolt 1/2 turn. Rotate belt tensioner clockwise, and remove timing belt. Remove crankshaft and camshaft sprockets (if necessary).
