Steering Wheel & Horn Pad: Removal

  1. Disable SIR system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove SIR module/center pad assembly-to-steering wheel screws from behind steering wheel. Use extreme care when handling steering wheel SIR module/center pad assembly.
    NOTE: Orange wiring harness connectors are for air bag module.
  2. Support SIR module/center pad assembly and unplug harness connectors. See Fig 1. Remove SIR module/center pad assembly and place on work surface, with vinyl side up. Remove steering wheel retaining nut.
  3. Ensure front wheels are straight. Scribe mark on shaft and steering wheel for reassembly reference. Using steering wheel puller, remove steering wheel. See Fig 2.
