Sir Coil: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS. Disable SIR system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. SIR coil is located under steering wheel, in steering column. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL.
  2. Remove upper and lower steering column trim covers. Unclip and set aside left-front carpet retainer. Remove 2 screws and disconnect hood release lever from knee bolster. Remove 2 trim caps. Unbolt and remove knee bolster from instrument panel. Remove tape from SIR coil assembly harness from combination switch harness. Disconnect SIR coil electrical connector.
  3. On all models, mark SIR coil and steering shaft for reassembly reference. Remove screws and SIR coil. See Figure .
