Chart A, Intermittent DTC Diagnosis (1 Of 2): Description

When system voltage is applied to center sensor assembly, it will perform PRIMARY CHECK followed by CONSTANT CHECK. When fault is detected, center sensor assembly will store a DTC and illuminate AIR BAG light. When a DTC is stored, safety circuit (inside center sensor assembly) will open, preventing SRS operation. All faults must be repaired and all DTC's must be cleared before safety circuit closes, allowing SRS to function normally.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart. For circuit number identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  1. Checks for intermittent shorts to ground in steering column and forward sensor circuits. Also checks for intermittent shorts from high side of forward sensor circuits to low side.
  2. Checks for intermittent sorts to voltage in steering column and forward sensor circuits. Also checks for intermittent opens in both forward sensor circuits.
  3. Checks for intermittent shorts from high side of steering column circuit to low side.
  4. Checks for intermittent opens in steering column circuit.
  5. Checks for intermittent conditions within steering column.
  6. Checks for intermittent opens in one of the forward sensor circuits.
WARNING: To avoid air bag deployment and injury when trouble shooting system, only use test equipment specified in diagnostic charts.
