Fuel Gauge Indicates "E" At All Times

  1. If speedometer indicates correct vehicle speed, go to next step. If speedometer does not indicate correct vehicle speed, check instrument panel printed circuit for cracks or poor connections. If printed circuit is okay, repair open in Brown wire between instrument cluster and ground.
  2. Unplug fuel gauge sending unit connector. Turn ignition on. If fuel gauge indicates "F", replace fuel gauge sending unit.
  3. If fuel gauge still indicates "E", unplug 10-pin (Gray) instrument panel cluster assembly connector located behind instrument panel cluster assembly. Using a DVOM, check resistance between connector terminal No. 6 (Yellow/Red wire; Pink wire after splice) and fuel gauge sending unit connector terminal No. 2 (Pink wire).
  4. If resistance is not infinite, repair short to ground in Yellow/Red wire (Pink wire after splice) between instrument panel cluster assembly and fuel gauge sending unit connector. If resistance is infinite, check instrument panel cluster printed circuit for cracks and poor connections. If printed circuit is okay, replace fuel gauge.
