Valve Clearance Adjustment

NOTE: Valve clearance can be adjusted with engine cold or hot.
  1. Remove air cleaner assembly and valve cover. Rotate crankshaft until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke. Ensure timing mark on crankshaft pulley aligns with "0" mark on timing belt cover.
  2. Remove distributor cap. Ensure rotor aligns with No. 1 distributor terminal.
  3. Using feeler gauge, check clearance between rocker arm and valve stem on both valves on No. 1 cylinder, intake valve on No. 2 cylinder and exhaust valve on No. 3 cylinder.
  4. Adjust clearance if not within specification. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS table. Adjust clearance by loosening lock nut, rotating adjusting screw and tightening lock nut.
  5. Rotate crankshaft 360 degrees. Check clearance on both valves on No. 4 cylinder, intake valve on No. 3 cylinder and exhaust valve on No. 2 cylinder. Adjust clearance as necessary.
