Tracker (Fuel Gauge Reads "E" At All Times)

  1. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit connector. Connect an ohmmeter between sending unit connector terminal No. 1 and ground. If more than 3 ohms are present, repair open in Black ground wire.
  2. If less than 3 ohms are present, connect a fused jumper wire between fuel gauge sending unit connector terminal No. 2 and ground. If fuel gauge indicates full, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
  3. If fuel gauge continues to indicate empty, leave jumper connected and disconnect 10-pin instrument panel cluster assembly connector. Connect an ohmmeter from connector terminal No. 7 to ground. If resistance is more than 3 ohms, repair open circuit in Yellow/Red wire.
  4. If resistance is less than 3 ohms, check instrument panel cluster printed circuit for cracks and poor connection. If printed circuit is okay, replace fuel gauge.
